Jörg, Kira, Ema and Lilu have found a little piece of paradise close by to Ravenwood and plan to live here in Val Sacra as soon as possible. They have been searching for three years for home, and found us recently...all our lives shall be enriched by having these magnificent beings as part of our tribe....
Jörg made Lilu her very own hammock swing, as the play area is more for older children, with tree house and high swings.
This was a very exiting day for me when I discovered arnica here in the Valchuisella. It grows a little higher than Ravenwood at about 1000 meters above sea level. We are 800 meters above sea level.
I harvested a few flower heads and infused them in olive oil for a few months, then strained the oil and heated it slightly to add a little beeswax to make an ointment. It is great for bumps and bruises.
Self heal grows wild in our meadows. It is a good remedy when you are at a loss as to which plant to use. The name tells all. I make olive oil infusion for massage with it and brandy tincture.
Sally's Introduction to Herbal Medicine
My past education in medicine is a little shaky...having trained as a nurse and midwife in a hospital in the 70's .When we came to Ravenwood I was keen to learn Herbal Medicine, and friends visiting helped me to identify edible and medicinal herbs that are natural to this area,
Slowly one plant at a time I have began to understand and resonate with the nature spirits here.
Some species we have added, like comfrey, rosemary, lavender, yet there is such a profusion of wild plants here that the meadows have been my oyster!
Our library has an abundance of herb books to which I have referenced, yet still I reckon my main teacher is Mother Nature herself!
It is such a joy choosing the right time according to the moon, season, weather, and ritualistically
preparing these medicines.
It is really very easy to do, add beeswax to oil infusion for ointment, chop up herbs fresh and add to men-strum for tinctures.
I keep all potions in progress under my bed so I can keep an eye on them, give them a shake, taste the tinctures; and decide when to strain them.
Saint John's Wort ( Hypericum)
Hypericum grows wild here at Ravenwood in our sunny meadows. I harvest it at midday on a sunny day, only taking a few sprigs from each clump. Hypericum heals body and soul inside and out. It inhibits the growth of unwanted viruses, bacteria and fungi. It increases immunity,
helps SADS, depression, liver congestion, shingles, nervous exhaustion, menopausal moods, and jet lag.
Infusion in organic olive oil for use in cooking or massage
Brandy tincture or you can use wine or vinegar, brandy tincture is more long lasting
Smudge sticks are for protection
Dry herb for tea
A few years ago I discovered watercress next to a river nearby, so I transplanted a few small plants to our spring river.
Now we have two big carpets of watercress.
It grows profusely in summer yet even in winter we find some.
Very yummy and full of minerals and vitamin C

Winter solstice 21.12.2013
Nothing can be more magical than making ceremony at sunrise, followed by a cosy breakfast in Annie`s dome.
In the afternoon we were invited to the local druids ceremony. Pictured here The Priestess and The Shaman's companion, Irene and Tara. It was fantastic, they made a magical sacred circle, a big central bonfire, we chanted and danced, offered our own prayers...we were smudged, chilled, sweat ed elated. When the ceremony was over we had a bring and share meal and everybody sang happy birthday to our Solstice baby, Kelly!
The druids will join us for the January full moon drumming and at Imbolc next year the venue of the Ritual shall be here at Ravenwood.
Winter solstice, Christmas visitors and New Years Eve
Liz was in England visiting family and in Germany during December and January.
In January two Italian lads came to help out, serenade us with their guitars, and experience this lifestyle.
Thanks David and Gianluka for all the great firewood collecting, and all the help clearing stuff. Not to forget the snug is being re decorated...it is not finished yet.
Gianluka has been teaching me Italian...bellissimo...buona notte, sonjya doro.
Today Kelly and Gianluka left. Kelly is back in England for a spell.
David stayed a few days
Gianluka is a great musician, he is a graduate of philosophy and at the moment busks for a living. One touriast once gave him a 500 Euro note! His stay here has made a big impact on his life. His plan for the future is to work a spell in a Swiss University and then buy his Kin Domain in this Valley

Full Moon fire with snow falling on us. Kelly, Gianluka. Mark and Pablito Gianluka's dog.
Decorating the snug was a lot of fun, we were listening to our favorite songs from youtube. Lots of Bob Marley was played and John Lennon, Bob Dylan.......
Sabina came for a week in early Autumn with Lilu and Gaven to find out more about our local homeschool group and to begin the process of purchasing a nearby property. Today, 24th December the little family is back with us and this time Zeb came too. We feel truly honoured that they choose this Anastasia village to build their Space of Love with.
It has been a wonderful, full and busy Autumn!
Snow came very early this year, it doesn't appear to deter visitors! Love to you all.
Annie's nieces from Australia Melody and Angel came to stay a few weeks with their friend Seychelle..we made them a welcome blackberry cake...lots of campfires, swimming in the river..eating salads from the garden... good times were had in Eden.
Fred and Kim stayed with us for a few months, in the early Autumn it rained for three weeks and we were in the clouds literally (we are 800 metres above sea level). Sadly their camper bus Ivy got really moldy and the family took flight! Luckily mutual friends in the valley were able to offer warm, dry accommodation. We wish them joy and happiness on their soul journey. Gratitude, love .... I sincerely hope that they find what they are searching for.
Leo and Annie had a great time with face clay in the solar shower!!!
