Liz's Birthday Blog
Last Sunday turned out to be a very pleasant day for my birthday celebration- the weather was perfect and the company was very special. Apart from Jeremy, Annie and myself, Gerhard was here with his lovely daughter Sara, and our friend Hendrik also came for the day. As you can see from the picture gallery below Annie and Jeremy made me the tallest and most fruity cake ever seen here! A heartfelt thanks for all the food preparation, gifts, cards and excellent company.
I had a big surprise when I opened a gift from Annie. It was a beautiful Native American flute. You can hear me playing it in the video below! I played to the bilberries and the mountains and ended up in deep contemplation. Thank you dear Annie for gifting me this beautiful instrument.
Gerhard gave me several lovely gifts including some special seeds from Russia for growing Siberian Cedar trees like those described in the Anastasia books by Vladimir Megré.
After all the feasting we went up the hill through the forest to pick the wild bilberries, which are now ripe and fruiting in profusion in this area. The long panoramic photo above shows the place where we were picking. I think we are all in the photo too! Below are scenes from the day and a special close up of the bilberries. Although they are small, we succeeded in picking around two kilos, and these have been made into wonderful home made jam.
Many thanks to everyone for a most memorable day!
